Firefly Energy Wins NICC Award

Company awarded $100,000 to further develop its advanced lead acid battery.
The NASA-Illinois Commercialization Center (NICC) recently announced that Peoria-based Firefly Energy has won a $100,000 award that the company will use to further develop its advanced lead acid battery.
Firefly has entered into a partnership to test various composite materials for efficiently getting the power up and out of the Firefly battery.
"This is a good example of how NASA is looking to partner with industry to reduce the cost and time of developing technologies that support NASA's mission goals," stated Firefly's Mil Ovan.
Firefly Energy Inc. was formed and spun out by Caterpillar Inc., a Fortune 100 industrial manufacturing company. The announcement of the company’s founding was made on May 1, 2003, by Caterpillar's Chairman/CEO Glen Barton at the Peoria NEXT conference.
